Bass clarinet at the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra
Giuseppe Gentile is an Italian clarinetist who currently holds the position of bass clarinet player in the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2015.
In 2023 he held the same position in the Orchestra dell'Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome.
He began to play the clarinet at the age of 5 with his grandfather. After graduating from the Conservatory "O. Respighi" in Latina, he attended several masterclasses with Calogero Palermo and studied bass clarinet with Sauro Berti and Dario Goracci.
In 2013-2014 he attended the Master Course with Alessandro Carbonare at Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome.
He won several prizes in Competitions, including First Prize at 8th International Clarinet Competition in Carlino (cat. Bass clarinet) and Second Prize (without First Prize) at 5th International Clarinet Competition “Rino Viani” in Carpi.
He has played with many orchestras such as Utopia Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Orchestra Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Orchestra Regionale della Toscana, Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona, Orchestra dell'Arena di Verona etc.
His teaching experiences include masterclasses in Music Conservatories in Italy, Finland, Belgium and South Korea.
Very active as a chamber music player, he is a co-founder of the Italian Clarinet Quartet and a member of Helsinki Chamber Soloists and Lumo Quintet. Giuseppe holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and a Master in Sport and Performance Psychology. Alongside with mental training sessions with musicians, he often runs workshops on Performance Psychology in Music Academies and schools.
