Martin Frutiger is the Principal English Cor of the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zürich and he is professor of oboe at the Hochschule Luzern - Musik.In addition to his orchestral and teaching activities, he regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician. Invitations to concerts and masterclasses have taken him all over Europe, Asia and the United States.
Martin Frutiger received his musical education at the Berne Conservatory with Professor Hans Elhorst and at the Munich University of Music with Professor Günther Passin. He then played for two years with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the Karajan Academy.
Martin Frutiger won first prize in the International Oboe Competition at the Haendel Festival in Halle an der Saale and also won first prize in the «National Musical Execution Competition» in Switzerland. He is the winner of the ARD music competition in Munich, and in 2003 he won second prize at the Sony oboe competition in Tokyo. The same year, he was also a finalist in the «New talents» competition of the European Radio-Television Union (EBU) in Bratislava.
Martin has released three records with romantic works for English horn and piano on the English label «guild». Martin Frutiger is the artistic director of the oboe for «The Muri Competition». Martin Frutiger has been working with Buffet Crampon since 2004.
