Professor of the Central Conservatory of Music/Clarinetist and educator

Fan Lei is the most renowned clarinetist and educator in the music world today. Professor at the Central Conservatory of Music, China’s first tutor for clarinet doctoral students, president of China Clarinet Research Association, visiting professor at Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Yale University, former tenured professor at Lawrence University (Wisconsin, USA), artistic director clarinet of at Morningside Music Bridge (Canada), and taught at the Banx Art Center in Canada. He is also a visiting professor at eight well-known Chinese universities including Xi'an Conservatory of Music, Shenyang Conservatory of Music and Qingdao Yehudi Menuhin School.
He served as chairman of the jury for the 19th Saverio Mercadante International Clarinet Competition and the 2nd and 3rd Buffet Cup (China) Youth Clarinet Competition. He served as a judge for the German Mark Neuskirchen International Music Competition, the Belgium International Clarinet Competition, the China Music Golden Bell Award, and the Beijing International Youth Clarinet Competition. He founded the Central Conservatory of Music Chamber Music Festival, the International Wind and Percussion Music Festival, the International Mozart Clarinet Competition, Qingdao Clarinet Master Class and Clarinet Music Festival, and Xi'an Clarinet and Saxophone Music Festival. He has been invited to give personal master classes at world renowned universities such as the Curtis Institute of Music, Juilliard School of Music, Yale University, Cleveland Institute of Music, and Bologna Conservatoire. He participated in the recording of Qingdao Cable's "Heart Spin", CCTV Music Channel's "People", and CCTV Music Channel's "Music Open Class". He took the charge of the translation of three volumes of "Clarinet Performance Tutorial" authored by German clarinet professor Rainer Weiler, and was published by People's Music Publishing House.
He won the first prize in the China National Selection Competition and represented China in Toulon International Clarinet Competition in France and received an honorary award (the first place winner was Paul Meyer); and won second place in the finals of the New York Young Performers Prize Competition. He has received three times Outstanding Instructor Award for BOB Program of the Central Conservatory of Music, he also received the Ministry of Education’s Overseas Distinguished Teacher Award from 2010 to 2015, and he received Golden School Badge- the Central Conservatory of Music’s highest honor in 2018 and 2019.
