Nuno Silva studied with António Saiote, Hans Deinzer, Pascal Moraguès, and Håkan Rosengren. He graduated in Musicology from the University of Lisbon and, since 2003, holds a Master’s degree from California State University Fullerton. In 2017, he obtained a doctorate in music performance from the University of Évora. Nuno Silva won 1st prize in all major Portuguese competitions and has also been distinguished in international competitions.
His recordings include Weber’s Concerto No. 2 with the New Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, two CDs with the Lisbon Clarinet Quartet, SWING.PT with the Portuguese Army Symphonic Band, and most recently, a live performance CD featuring Mozart's Quintet and Copland's Clarinet Concerto with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra. These recordings were highly praised by critics: "Silva's tone has great core, focus, and ring…" noted The Clarinet, while Fanfare Magazine remarked, "... Silva has the chops to handle all of this music, and the swing to sell it."
In 2018, Nuno Silva performed the Lindberg Clarinet Concerto under the direction of the composer himself. In 2020, he published the book CLARINETE.PT, which was met with great enthusiasm by clarinetists and musicians in general.
Nuno Silva has toured globally as a performer, teacher, and jury member, in countries including Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland, the Netherlands, Australia, India, Japan, Korea, China, the USA, Mexico, and Brazil. Since 2018, he has been regularly invited to serve on the jury at the Haute École de Musique de Genève.
Nuno Silva currently holds the position of Principal Clarinet with the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa and is Professor of Clarinet at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra in Lisbon. He is also the Artistic Director of the Cultural Association Cultivarte, which organizes the Lisbon International Clarinet Festival.
