José Daniel Cabrera Flores is a Paraguayan clarinetist, educator, and cultural leader, recognized for his artistic versatility and his commitment to the promotion of Latin American music.
He began his musical training under the guidance of his father and later continued at the Municipal Conservatory “Agustín Barrios” in Asunción, where he studied with Professor Carlos Jara. In 2009, he was awarded a scholarship by FESNOJIV to pursue advanced studies at the Simón Bolívar Conservatory and the Latin American Clarinet Academy, where he studied with distinguished teachers such as Valdemar Rodríguez, Jorge Montilla, and Carmen Borregales. During this period, he was also a founding member of the Latin American Clarinet Quartet.
Prizewinner at the IX Festival of Young Venezuelan Clarinetists (Mozart Category, 2011), he has developed an active career as a soloist and chamber musician, collaborating with leading ensembles and performers across Latin America. He has also premiered and promoted works by contemporary Paraguayan composers, several of which have been dedicated to him by composers such as Remigio Pereira, Diego Sánchez Haase, and Enrique Álvarez.
His discography includes collaborations with the Simón Bolívar Youth Symphonic Band under the direction of Thomas Clamor (GENUIN), as well as recordings with artists such as Berta Rojas and Germán Lema.
Cabrera holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music (Clarinet), graduating with honors, and a Master’s degree in Music Performance under the guidance of António Saiote at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo (Porto, Portugal). He also holds postgraduate qualifications in University Teaching and Cultural Policy Management.
He is currently Assistant Principal Clarinet of the National Symphony Orchestra of Paraguay and a member of the Asunción Symphony Orchestra. Alongside his performance career, he serves as professor of clarinet, chamber music, and improvisation at the National University of Asunción, and teaches at the Municipal Conservatory “Agustín Barrios” and the National Institute of Music.
A frequent guest at international festivals in Europe and Latin America, he is the founder and artistic director of the International Clarinet Festival of Paraguay, a platform dedicated to artistic exchange and education in the region. He is a laureate of national competitions, including the “Arte y Cultura” Prize of the Central Bank of Paraguay (2022) and the OCMA 50th Anniversary Competition (2023).
