Principal oboe with Amsterdam's Concertgebouw Orchestra

He was born on August 11, 1978 in Valverde del Camino, Spain. A passionate musician, he studied oboe with Prof. Thomas Indermühle from 1995 to 1997 at a Musikhochschule. It was at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg (1997-2000) where he obtained his soloist diploma under Heinz Holliger.
As an oboist, he has won first prize in numerous competitions including the Concours National d'Execution Musicale (Switzerland), the Concurso Nacional para Jóvenes (Granada, Spain), the Fernand Gillet Oboe Competition (USA) and the II Concorso Internazionale per Oboe Giuseppe Tomassini (Petritoli, Italy).
Through his numerous solo engagements, Lucas Macias Navarro has performed at prestigious festivals and events such as the Berliner Festwochen, the Festival of Usedom, the Young Artists in Concert Festival (Davos), Basel's European Music Month, the ARD-Kammermusikfest (2003), the Albert-Konzerte Freiburg concerts, the Schwetzinger Musikfestival (2004), the Roque d'Anthéron (2004), and the BBC Proms.
He has performed as principal oboe with the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester (conducted by Claudio Abbado, Seiji Ozawa and Pierre Boulez), with the Camerata Berne, the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden & Freiburg, with the Stadtorchester Winterthur (Switzerland), the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (Hessischer Rundfunk), the Bochum Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne (conducted by Christian Zacharias), and with the Budapest Festival Orchestra (conducted by Ivan Fischer).
Moreover, Claudio Abbado chose him to be principal oboe in his recently established "Mozart Orchestra." Lucas Macias Navarro is currently pursuing his studies at the Berlin Philharmonic's Karajan Academy. Since March 2004, he has held the position of principal oboe with the Münchener Kammerorchester, conducted by Christoph Poppen.
He is now solo oboist with the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra.
