Famous clarinetist, educator/Clarinet professor and doctoral supervisor at the Central Conservatory of Music

Yuan Yuan graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music and the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music in the Netherlands. He studied successively under Professor Huang Yuanfu, Professor Tao Chunxiao and Professor Herman Braune. He was the first place winner in the 1st clarinet competition in China and the winner of the Chinese Works Award. He was also the first place winner in the China Woodwind Chamber Music Competition and the winner of the Chinese Works Award. As a popular clarinetist on the international stage, Yuan Yuan has served as a judge in various major international competitions around the world: the 17th International Tchaikovsky Competition (Russia), the 42nd Belgrade International Music Competition (chairman of the jury) ); the 2nd and 4th International Clarinet Competition (Ghent, Belgium); the Czech Clarinet Artists International Competition; the 2nd and 4th JacquesLancelot International Clarinet Competition (Japan); the 2020 Italian International Clarinet Competition; the 2nd Bulgarian Sava Dimitrov International Clarinet Competition, Korean Chamber Music Association International Competition; Hong Kong International Clarinet Competition; Buffet Cup (China) Clarinet Competition (Artistic Director); Shanghai Youth National Clarinet Performance Competition; BUFFET Asia-Pacific (Taiwan) Clarinet Competition, and etc. He has also been invited to give master classes and solo concerts at major music academies and art festivals around the world, including: Royal Conservatoire of Belgium, Ghent Conservatory of Music (Belgium), Sofia Conservatory of Music (Bulgaria), Sibelius Conservatory of Music (Finland), and Belgrade Conservatory of Music (Serbia), International Clarinet Association Annual Meeting (Belgium), 3rd European Clarinet Festival, Camerino International Clarinet Festival (Italy), International Clarinet Association Annual Meeting (Boston, Kansas, USA), Alexandria Music Festival (Germany), BUFFET's 190th anniversary celebration concert (France), and etc., and received high praises. Yuan Yuan holds regular solo concerts across China, including Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and other regions. He has also been invited to participate in the Shanghai International Clarinet Festival, Xi'an International Clarinet Festival, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra International Clarinet Week, and Lanzhou International Clarinet Festival. He also performed at various concerts and was deeply loved and popular among the audience. He is also keen on chamber music and symphony orchestra performance and served as deputy principal clarinet of the China Philharmonic Orchestra for thirteen years (2005-2018). Yuan Yuan takes upon himself the mission of promoting the development of China's clarinet. The Central Conservatory of Music International Clarinet Festival he founded is China's highest-level and largest academic exchange platform for clarinet with significant international influence. In March 2019, his article "Outlook of the development of clarinet in China through holding of the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music International Clarinet Festival" was published in the journal of the ICA (International Clarinet Association) that offers a comprehensive and detailed introduction to the development and achievements of China's clarinet industry in recent years, showing to the world the booming clarinet business in China that has become a bridge to promote exchanges with its counterparts overseas. Yuan Yuan also devotes himself to the teaching of clarinet. His students have won numerous awards in major international and domestic competitions, and many of them have become professional orchestra players and music school teachers. He has recorded and published several solo albums to great acclaim.
